The Choice

Gripping account of how the author twice faced cancer and emerged victorious. She has become a highly popular speaker in Ireland promoting a healthy lifestyle, and is a regular guest on TV and radio. Audiences have packed lecture halls to hear her tell her story and discuss the empowering health program she created. Her writing also has the popular touch. Seven years after Bernadette won her first battle against cancer, she became pregnant with a child she longed for. Although her doctor warned that carrying the baby could cause a recurrence of the disease, she chose to keep the child. Five years after the birth of her daughter, cancer again attacked her body. Bernadette made another powerful choice. She realized that to fight the cancer and stay healthy through the traditional treatments, she had to battle on her own terms.   Gill & McMillan Publications

I first came across Bernadette Bohan when she spoke at the Rude Health Show at the RDS in Dublin and I’m so very grateful for coming across her. I don’t take to books easily and I found myself unable to put this book down – my husband was amazed how quickly I finished this book as I usually take ages to finish a book.A lot of us think we know what it means to be healthy but this book and Bernadette’s other books for that matter are an eye opener. This is not just a book for people touched by cancer, this book is for everyone as reading this book has made me realise I do not want to wait until I have an illness before I get round to treating my body the way it was meant to be treated.

You need just meet this Superwoman to see the vitality that radiates from her and this is a woman who only started truly being healthy at the age of 44 when she started exploring all this wealth of information on health.

I wish everyone would read her books and I’ve given all three of her books to my loved ones.

An inspitational read

By A Reader

This review is from: The Choice: The true story of a mother fighting for her life – and her child (Paperback)

I couldn’t put this book down – anyone that has been touched by Cancer should read this, it not only makes you aware of what you can do to help yourself when sick or in recovery, but also how a “perfectly” healthy person can change their habits in order to lower the risk of Cancer developing in the first place. This book doesn’t lecture, it’s a beautifully written, honest, sad and true account of how one woman and her family dealt with the harsh realities that they faced and what Bernadette did to increase her chances of living a healthy and happy life whilst dealing with Cancer and the years after.
Her youthful and glowing looks due to her dietry habits should be enough inspiation in itself!

A capturing read and full of useful, applicable information

This review is from: The Choice: (Paperback)

Bernadette Bohan’s book truly captured me. She writes about her life and her battle against cancer in a moving way. Always keen to tell us how people around her – including her family – felt, it gives a full picture of cancer and of the support and love that carried Bernadette. Reading the story of cancer and treatments from an insider’s point of view really opened my eyes to what cancer patients go through and the strength they show throughout their treatment.
Definetely the most important part of this book is her truly simple, easy to follow “Change Simply” plan of 4 steps she took to better health. She explains in such simple terms that give you courage that everybody can do it! She says, if a wife and mother of 3 on chemotherapy can do it – who can’t! And it’s true, her recommendations are much more applicable to my busy life than anything I have read before in diet and nutrition guides.
In very simple words she explains what she does to stay healthy without being patronising. And best of all, she lists resources at the very end of her book. So, all I need to do now is pick myself up, ring up a few people and go to the next Health Food Shop – and away I am on her Change Simply plan.
A truly capturing book that I flew through, full of real love, life and experience, and very good ideas on how to improve your life s i m p l y and effectively! I thoroughly recommend it.

A fantastic book, Bernadette’s courage and honesty shine through. This is a touching and humbling story of an Irish woman’s battle with cancer. Openly written, by the end you almost feel that you know her and her family. I could not put this book down and I cannot wait to start to make some of the simple changes that Bernadette recommends.

I really enjoyed reading this story which was told from the heart. It made me stop and think about how this illness affects people and it was inspirational to read Bernadette’s determination to beat the battle. I was also very interested in the simple changes she recommends which could benefit us all even if we are not ill. Definitely a book which I would recommend reading.

Uplifting, By Rachel Genocchi (Ireland)

I read this book on a flight home and cried and laughed through the journey. It was a very moving account of a very courageous woman who challenged the norm and simply changed her life. I felt
very inspired by the end in so much I have stopped taking sugar, started drinking more water and will take on a lot more of her suggestions in the hope of making my life even a little bit healthier. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good read.

Feel ten years younger and full of life, 26 Jun 2006 By Mrs. Carolyn Thomas

This book has inspired me to change my life for the better. Since reading ‘The Choice’ and following Bernadette’s advice I have lost 2 stone and restored my body to the weight I was when I was eighteen. My cancer continues to be in remission. I swim at least 3 miles a week and walk about 20. My energy levels have rocketed. Bernadette’s book has really motivated me to take my own life in my hands and I am totally in debt to her.

Hope & Positivity, By “david502″ -

Bernadette Bohan’s book “The Choice” is powerful message of hope and inspiration after having being diagnosed with cancer not once but twice. The Choice is a must read by anybody touched by cancer whether personally/close family member or friend. Unlike many books of the genre the last couple of chapters deal with her Change simply plan which is empowering for anybody touched by a serious illness. The message from these last chapters is – Don’t be a passive victim of disease, make simple changes to your diet and lifestyle and see what happens! In Bernadette’s case it restored her to great health!

Couldn’t put it down – read over two nights. Made me laugh and cry. Unlike the other detox/diet popular books on the market, Bernadette also covers harmful chemicals in addition to the dietary changes – had already implemented some of the changes and am determined to continue and improve after reading the book. Am going to purchase Bernadette’s follow up book.

Amazing story of one woman’s amazing courage, By Ms. Y. L. Flaws “Yvonne” (Scotland) –
This review is from: The Choice:

I was given this book as a gift, and it took me a while to pick it up as I thought it would upset me reading it. My only wish is that I had picked it up quicker. The Courage that Bernadette has is amazing. I read the whole book in 24 hours I could not put it down. In places I laughed and in other places I cried.

It makes you feel very positive what ever is happening in your life at the time you read it. Buy this book you will not be disappointed.

Life changing, by Sylvia Lee “juice convert” (Ireland) -

I happened to come across this book by chance. My mother had breast cancer a number of years ago and has been in fine health since so I don’t see myself as someone who has been affected badly by cancer.
This book is both life changing and hugely enlightening for anyone reading it, from any walk of like. I am still making small changes gradually to my lifestyle and diet for which I am already benefiting. In turn I have converted my 9 year old daughter to a few juices when I’d no hope of getting that amount of nutrients into her in the past.
I think its a great story about a horrible disease which is worth fighting or if possible avoiding.
