I wanted to share this great toothbrush that I have come across, Humble Brush. In a world obsessed with using plastic for everything, I try to avoid it as much as possible, from my water bottles to my food containers. Because of this I have been using wooden toothbrushes for years however this new brush I have come across is my ultimate favourite for so many reasons. Not only is the product fab but the ethics of the company behind the product seem pretty fantastic too.

Humble Brush is a young start-up that originated in Sweden and is becoming more available in Ireland through various health stores etc. The brush handle is made out of 100% biodegradable bamboo no nasty plastic in sight and as bamboo is naturally antibacterial it means that there is no need to use fertilizers or pesticides during its cultivation.

The bristles are made out of nylon which is a synthetic material, however, the only natural material which has the same properties as nylon is either pig or badger hair. That’s not something I’d like to brush my teeth with. Humble Brush use Nylon-6, which is biodegradable and free from the toxin BPA, a durable material that degrades over time and can be processed through regular waste channels. There is no other plant-based material that would allow to use your brush for the recommended three months.

The brushes are packed in a transparent, biodegradable, wrapper made completely out of plants. The box is made out of 100% recycled materials.

Humble Brush is so much better for the environment, the average person uses 300 toothbrushes in their lifetime which all add up. Look at the difference in the picture above of a Normal brush versus a Humble Brush 10 years after you have thrown it out! We don't really think about these things day to day but if there is a brush out there that is not going to be filling your body or the environment with nasty toxins it seems like a no-brainer to me.

Finally my favourite part of the Humble Brush story, and the reason I decided to write a blog about it to get the good message out there and to help support the cause is that for every Humble Brush you buy they donate another to a child in need through their charitable organisation, Humble Smile Foundation. Humble Smile Foundation manages oral health outreach projects to help keep smiles on the faces of kids that live in the most vulnerable areas around the world. Their vision is to prevent suffering caused by oral disease by promoting effective oral health initiatives where needs are great. Brushing your teeth is something we don't even think twice about in my house and I am sure most of us have never even thought about  the fact that for so many people is the world they just don't have the option to keep their teeth clean, which can have catastrophic effects on their health.

The foundation has already provided over 100,000 toothbrushes to refugees, a small comfort to these people that are going through so much.

I have been using my Humble Brush for a week now and the product is great, the bristles are strong without being abrasive as my gums can become sensitive and my teeth feel spotless after every cleaning. Not only does this brush keep my teeth clean,  my conscience is a bit cleaner too knowing that I am supporting a company that is doing so much good!.

If you are looking to buy a Humble Brush they can be bought online Here or you could check your local health shop.
